Happy New Year (Healthy Lifestyle + Echelon)



Hi friends!

WOW! I am so happy it’s 2019! 2018 was a crazy year for our family and I am honestly so happy to be done with the year lol. Joshua and I don’t typically make Resolutions for the new year. However, we do like to make goals or things we would like to accomplish in 2019. My friend gave me the idea of doing 19 in 19. We wrote down 19 “I Will” statements for the new year and read them to each other. We will definitely be doing this in the future. It was a good time for us to reflect on things from the past year as well as look forward to the new year on what we would like to accomplish!

I know that the new year is always a big time for people to set health goals for themselves so I decided to center my post around that. I am going to be sharing all about my fitness goals, workout wear, and everything in between. If you have been following me for any length of time then you know that I am an occasional runner. I started running after a bet Joshua and I made with each other and then continued running because it helped me get off of the prescription medicine I was on for chronic migraines. YES – Migraine free for almost 3 years now! SAY WHAT?!?! Anyways, running has become a huge part of who I am and I try to be active multiple times throughout the week.

  1. Echelon Bike & Echelon App: I know, I know – I was just talking about running! Well, one thing I have learned to LOVE is cycling. I live in South Carolina and it can get pretty cold here in the winter. I love running in the cold, but with the way my schedule has been lately – I run out of daylight to run in the cold. About 2 months ago, Joshua started the process of building our home gym. We only use one part of our garage so the other part is being converted to our home gym. It’s a great way for us to not make any excuses on working out every week. Plus, it is super convenient! During our off season (when we aren’t training for a race) it’s important that we still keep our legs in shape and don’t allow them to get weak. One way we have been able to do this is through cycling! We both used to dabble in cycling back in the day, but now it has become apart of our daily schedule. We bought a bike online and use the Echelon app and it is AMAZING! We absolutely love it. We’ve had the app for about 4 weeks now and truly don’t know what we did before it. We are able to enjoy on demand classes, live classes, and everything in between. I have the opportunity to get in a 20 minute class before dinner, join in on the 6:30 AM class on weekdays, and so much more. It is super convenient. We are currently looking at purchasing the Echelon Bike with all of the bells and whistles because we love it so much. And guess what?!?   2. Workout Wear: I promise I am not trying to be one of “those” but I could live in yoga pants and leggings. My gosh – how do they make those things so comfortable? Having the appropriate workout gear is crucial for me. I have tried a ton of different leggings in my days and my all time favorites are the ones from LuluLemon. Yes, they are a splurge item but they are SO WORTH IT. They hold up better than any of my other leggings and work well for what I use them. I run in them, workout, cycle, lounge, and live in mine. They are perfect! My favorites are the Fast & Free 7/8 tight, Align Pant, and some of the Wunder Unders! For a more affordable legging, I love Aerie! These are super comfortable and I love the pocket on the side. They have tons of color options, as well!
  3. Meal Prepping: This is something I am slowly but surely trying to get better at. The wonderful Emily Ley taught me the importance of meal planning but I will be honest that it’s taken me 4 years of marriage to get this down pat. lol. During the weekend, I plan all of our meals for the week. I will typically cook around 3-4 times a week and then we always take our lunch to our work. I have learned to have about 10-15 “go-to” dinner meals that I will swap in and out on the different weeks. This helps to make things not so complicated for me. However, sometimes, life gets busy and buying groceries and taking the time to think of a recipe is just too much. This is where I am so thankful to live in the 21st century. Hello, meal delivery kits. Joshua and I have done these a handful of times and every single time we are pleased. We have recently been trying, Marley Spoon. Marley Spoon are recipes from Martha Stewart that are delivered directly to your door. And they are so yummy! The ingredients are fresh, the recipes are easy, and the food is so healthy!
